Marie-Anne-Charlotte de Corday d’Armont retained by History under the name of Charlotte Corday was born on July 27 1768 near Vimoutiers in the Pays d’Auge, of a noble but declassed family.
Famous for having murdered Marat, responsible according to her of the excesses of the French Revolution, she is less known for its free spirit, modern and independent.
Great-granddaughter of Corneille, she was very educated, she admired the philosophers of the Lumières. She was opened to the new and constitutional ideas and frequent the Girondins and thus becomes Republican.
